After several years in research environments in Switzerland (IBM Zurich and the University of Neuchâtel), Douglas moved to Munich to work as a Patent Examiner at the European Patent Office (EPO). At the EPO he searched and examined patents in the field of investigating and analysing materials, including patents relating to various types of sensing. This he did for almost 20 years, before deciding to see what things looked like on the other side of the patent application procedure.
Since joining Hindles, Douglas has become a qualified European Patent Attorney and assists clients with patent drafting and prosecution work, both before the European Patent Office and more generally.
